Jeff's Story
My 5.9L Cummins has powered my 1999 Doge 2500 Ram as a daily work truck over the Los Padres mountain roads in winter snow and the summer heat of oilfields in Bakersfield. Now, it mainly pulls our 10,000 lb 5th wheel up and down the mountain grades of the Western U.S. I bought the Dodge Ram for the Cummins engine and 100K mileage warranty, and have replaced the lift pump with a FASS, rebuilt the NV4500 twice and replaced the head at 265K. The Cummins engine now has 301, 501 miles and still going strong!
Cummins Tips
I believe regular maintenance is the key to longevity with any equipment. Oil changes every 7.5K, 3 micron fuel filters every 15K, coolant 50% every 12 months. I use Fleetguard filters, Valoline Blue Oil and Cummins ES Coolant from my local Cummins dealer. I monitor my lift pump pressure, boost pressure and exhaust gas temperature to keep the engine within OEM operating limits.
